Castromediano is a hamlet in the municipality of Cavallino, in the province of Lecce. The center, 2 km away from the urban center of Cavallino, is now engulfed by the urban development of the city of Lecce. It owes its name to the Duke of Cavallino Sigismondo Castromediano, born in 1811 by the Duke Domenico II Castromediano and the Marquise Anna Theresa Balsamo. Born after World War II with the construction of some houses, which formed a nucleus called Case Sparse, in the countryside around Cavallino. In a few years the original nucleus grew considerably becoming a residential part of the district near Lecce. Currently Castromediano is characterized by the presence of numerous manufacturing and commercial activities.
