Santa Barbara is a hamlet of the town of Galatina, in the province of Lecce. It is located on the road linking Galatina to Copertino, about 3 km from Collemeto. The small town has developed especially in the twentieth century, around the homonymous farm of the sixteenth century. In medieval documents the town had the name "Santa Barbara de paludibus" for the presence of a swamp that is now drained drained, but was once used for flax retting. Right near those lands arose in the '500 the farmhouse that after several successions of property was sold to Domenico Andriani.
