Coastal Watchtowers / Torre dell'Orso - Melendugno (LE)
Orso's tower
The works began in 1568 by Giovanni Tommaso Garrapa, but its construction had to stop because of the death of the same; it was retaken in 1580 at the hands of his brother, Angelo Garrapa. It's situated on a high rocky coast, a few meters before the beach. In 1577, it was armed with a bronze falconet, handed by Lecce's mayor to the prosecutor of Borgagne.
