Coastal Watchtowers / Lecce (LE)
Veneri tower
It's a coastal tower located near the town of Lecce. It was built in the late 16th century to deal with the incursions of the Saracens. It stands on a small rocky outcrop. The tower has a truncated pyramid structure from the base up to the ring beam, while it ends in a parallelepiped shape. Built on two floors, presents a cistern and a stone staircase that leads to the first floor. The latter, with vaulted ceilings, still retains the old fireplace and a staircase leading to the terrace.
