Church of Maria Santissima Assunta
It is the mother church of Soleto in the province of Lecce, and is part of the Archdiocese of Otranto.
As shown on the northern facade of the new bell tower (Adrianus Preite to Cupert fecit) the manufacturer was the architect Adriano Preite da Copertino. After the earthquake of 1743, decades of attempts were spent to repair it before it was decided to demolish the old church in 1781.
In 1783 began the works on the north side, in 1786 was completed the roof and in 1787 the sacristy. The main altar was completed in 1795 and the new bell tower in 1796. In 1797 was hoisted new bell, merged to Soleto (in the Convent's garden) by Michele Olita Pignola.
After the death of Preite in 1804, the works continued until 1836, with the construction of other altars and only in 1849 the church was completed with the altar of the Assumption.
