Corigliano d'Otranto's Castle
The castle has a medieval layout and was radically renovated and expanded between 1514 and 1519 by Giovan Battista de 'Monti, who had adapted it to the demands of war and the principles of the military art of the time, making use of local workers. It is entirely surrounded by a moat and is spread over a square plant with four massive round towers at the corners; to them was entrusted the effectiveness of the entire defensive system, as shown by the numerous gunboats along the sides in correspondence to the internal casemates placed on the ground floor and first floor.
