Rione Riesci (Li Tufi in Salento dialect) is a small town in the province of Lecce, a district of Arnesano. According to the scholar Antonio Catamo from Veglie, the country's name derives from the dialect term "riecu", which means "last." It is assumed that the inhabitants of this country were latin shepherds who settled just outside the village of Arnesano. Perhaps they attributed the name "rieci" to newcomers, from which Riesci. As for the origin of the name "Tufi", which indicates the ward in the local language, it's connected to the numerous calcareous stone quarries, north of the district.
