Giuliano di Lecce

Giuliano di Lecce is a hamlet of 594 inhabitants of the town of Castrignano Cape, in the province of Lecce. It is situated at the southern end of the Salento peninsula to 130 m above sea level. It lies at 2 km from the capital city to the north, 5 km from Santa Maria di Leuca and 64 km from Lecce. Human settlements in the territory of Giuliano could have taken place before the Roman conquest, taking into account the presence of a menhir. The Rohlfs believes that its origins are Roman, and it derives its name from "Ager Julianus" (a farm of Julius). The center welcomed the survivors of the nearby town of Vereto, destroyed by the Saracens in the 9th century.
