Gallipoli (Alytia in greek and messapic, Aletium in Latin, commonly Picciotti) is an Italian town of 5,611 inhabitants in the province of Lecce, Apulia. Located on the western side of Salento, in the hinterland of Gallipoli, is located at 36.8 km from the provincial capital. Until 1873 the town was called Villa Picciotti, and in the past it was an important messapic settlement.
