Monastery of San Nicola di Casole
A few kilometers south of Otranto, the monastery of San Nicola di Casole is one of the most important places of Salento.
Tradition has it that the monastery was founded in 1098 by Boemondo I d'Antiochia. On the site there were altars, crypts and huts where the monks prayed. Then Boemondo donated it to a group of Basilians led by Giuseppe, who was the first abbot of the future monastery.
