Cathedral or Collegiate Church
It is the main church of the city and retains the Greek name of "great church." It stands on the site of two previous buildings, respectively, of the 14th and 16th centuries.
Of considerable artistic importance are the two altars in the transept of the headboards and the Major, all carved in Lecce stone by Emanuele Orfano and hand painted. The Major is surmounted by a statue of Our Lady of Mercy and those of the apostles Peter and Paul; in the presbytery are located also the wooden choir stalls and a pipe organ, all 18th-century works.
In the south transept is the chapel of the Sacrament, covered with polychrome marbles by Domenico d'Aloiaof Naples. .
