Mother Church of St. Andrew the Apostle

The mother church of St. Andrew the Apostle stands on the same site of the ancient parish church, destroyed by an earthquake in 1743. Rebuilt between 1778 and 1781 with the contribution of the Universitas and the entire population of Presicce, it still preserves the Renaissance bell tower dating from the mid-16th century.
Adjacent to the church, which is an integral part, there is the church of the Dead, which is defined as the mouths of underground tombs it contains, now closed and no longer visible. The Church of the Dead has the date 1575 engraved on the door.
There are numerous paintings by various artists from Salento (Catalano, Riccio, Tiso, Lillo): the picture of the patron Saint Andrew the Apostle, overlooking the wooden choir, is dated 1601 and signed by Giovan Battista Catalano; this painting was already in the old parish church. Other paintings: Moses saved from the waters, Saints Medici, the transport of the Ark of the Covenant.
