Coastal Watchtowers / Torre Pali - Salve (LE)
Pali tower
Pali tower is one of many coastal watchtowers built by Charles V in the 16th century to defend the land of Salento by the invasions of Saracen pirates. At the time of construction, the tower was located on land but, due to coastal erosion, today it's completely surrounded by water at about 15 meters from the coast. The tower has a round base, of which only the base remains, which was developed over two floors and may have had crenels on the upper part.
