Coastal Watchtowers / Marina di Novaglie - Alessano (LE)
Ricco's tower
It is a tower located in the municipality of Corsano. Located in 62 m above sea level near the coastal road, on a stretch of cliff overlooking the sea, at the eponymous canyon. The tower was built between 1563 and 1569, as a fortification built by Charles V to defend the Salento territory from the Saracens' attacks. Only ruins remain of the structure, with the exception of a part of the basement made of irregular stones and red clay.
