Specchia's watchtower

The watchtower of Specchiais a tower located at 115 meters above sea level in the municipality of Santa Cesarea Terme. It was built in the 16th century to defend the coast of Salento from the Saracens. It has a circular structure with a very simple architectural style. The structure, in ruin, is positioned on a high rocky outcrop and is difficult to detect because it is hidden by pine trees and Mediterranean scrub. It can be seen while traveling along the Santa Cesarea Terme - Porto Badisco - Otranto coastline.
