Church of Santa Maria dei Martiri

It is the mother church of Martignano, in the province of Lecce.
Its construction dates back to the first half of the 16th century and originally had a rectangular plan with no side openings, and equipped with only one altar.
The facade is topped by a triangular cusp and embellished with hanging shell-shaped arches, which also define the outline of the church on the sides.
The main entrance retains its original appearance, characterized by decorative motifs.
On the left side of the church are the clock and bell towers.
The interior is very rich: on the main door there is a large painting of San Carlo Borromeo and San Martiniano Eremita, painted in 1615 by Donato Antonio D' Orlando.
Through a wide archway, it's possible to enter the "cappella of Madonna del Rosario", dominated by the homonymous altar by Giuseppe Cino.
