Church of San Domenico
The Church of San Domenico, attached to the convent of the Dominicans, is an architectural complex located in Tricase, in the province of Lecce.
The foundation of the monastery of the Dominicans of Tricase is attested since the 15th century. It was built in the 13th century by Brother Nicolò Paglia Giovinazzo, a follower of St. Dominic; local tradition says that it was the sixth Convent of the order and it was recorded in 1612 between the houses of the monastic province of Apulia.
The church was built between 1679 and 1704, on a pre-existing building that was ravaged several times by the Turks, in the 15th and 16th century. Here there once was a prestigious library and a renowned chair of philosophy and theology.
