Churches / Soleto (LE)
Small church of Santo Stefano
It is a romanesque building of Soleto in the province of Lecce.
According to Charles Diehl, it was built in 1347, but other scholars tend to shift the founding date of the last years of the 14th century.
The series of paintings date from the late 14th century, with various interventions during the 15th century.
The façade has a romanesque portal, surmounted by a rosette of pure Apulian style, and a small bell tower with gothic elements.
The portal porch, almost completely eroded, presents some frames and an architrave openworked with floral-geometrical ornaments, and a lunette designed to contain, most likely, the fresco of the patron Saint.
The rose window is a wheel shaped small oculus with eight radiuses.
