Lecce Cathedral

The metropolitan Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is the main place of Catholic worship of Lecce, the mother church of the metropolitan archdiocese of same name and is located in the historic center of the city.
The temple has two façades, of which the main one is left from the Episcopio, while the other faces the square's entrance.
The main facade is divided into two orders where there are the statues of Saints Peter and Paul, St. Januarius and St. Louis of Toulouse, housed in niches. The campanile was built between 1661 and 1682 by architect Giuseppe Zimbalo from Lecce.
The bell tower has a square shape and is made ??up of five tapered floors, the last of which is surmounted by a majolicated octagonal dome, on which is placed an iron statue depicting Sant'Oronzo.
