Abbey of Santa Maria a Cerrate
The abbey of Santa Maria di Cerrate is one of the finest examples of romanesque architecture in Apulia.
It was founded the late XII century by Tancredi, Count of Lecce.
The Abbey boasts on the façade a portal surmounted by an arch with reliefs of outstanding quality, depicting scenes from the New Testament and a monk in prayer.
The façade features a small rosette in the center, a single lancet window on each side and a portal.
Of particular interest are the 13th and 14th-century frescoes.
