Church of the Holy Crucifix
The church of the Holy Crucifix, seat of the omonymous brotherhood, is located in the old town centre of Gallipoli. It was erected in 1750 on the lands owned by the Dominican friars, bought by the brotherhood in 1741.
Founded in 1400 under the name of San Michele Arcangelo, it changed its title in the 17th century, after a miraculous event.
The brotherhood organizes the rites of Holy Week in Gallipoli and in particular the procession of the Mysteries and of the Tomb of Our Lord Jesus Christ, traditionally called dell'Urnia.
