Spire Raimondello Orsini Del Balzo

Commissioned by Raimondo Del Balzo Orsini to celebrate its power, was completed in 1397 with some following reconstruction.
There is an ancient legend that tells of the construction of the Spire in a single night. Matteo Tafuri, scientist and scholar of the period, considered by his countrymen magician and alchemist, had commanded a troop of devils and witches to build the Spire in one night. At the crack of dawn, four griffins, mythical diabolical creatures, were trapped as can be seen at the four corners of the building.
