Salignano is, along with Santa Maria di Leuca and Giuliano di Lecce, one of the hamlets of Castrignano del Capo, in the province of Lecce. Small village in the Capo di Leuca, 500 meters from the capital city to the east, in the Middle Ages Salignano was an important cultural center, more than Castrignano itself. The defense tower, built in 1550, stands in Vicenza square, in the old town center. The tower, built for defense against pirates from the sea, has a circular plan. 15m high and 20m wide, is equipped with ten machicolations and five gunners. Recently renovated, it is used for cultural events.
