Le Centropietre (Hundred Stones)
Centopietre is an ancient funerary monument declared a Second Class national monument in 1873. Dated to the 9th century, it was built as a mausoleum for the burial of the knight Geminiano, a messenger of peace killed by the Saracens just before the final battle between Christians and Muslims on 24 June 877.
The rectangular structure, rectangular in shape, is built with 100 blocks of limestone from the Messapic city of Vereto. Inside it has several layers of frescoes depicting sacred subjects dating back to the 14th century.
