San Dana is, along with Arigliano, a hamlet of the town of Gagliano del Capo in the province of Lecce. Set in Salento, between Montesardo and Gagliano del Capo on Highway 275 of Santa Maria di Leuca, it counts 180 inhabitants and is located at 63 km from Lecce. The name derives from the Albanian saint, San Dana (or San Danatte), who was killed by the Saracens in the countryside just outside of town, where now stands a stele in his memory. The ancient origins of the country can be found from the pre-Byzantine evidence found in the crypt of Santa Apollonia.
