Sava is an Italian town of 16,490 inhabitants in the province of Taranto, Apulia. Located in the hinterland of Salento, is about 11 km from the Ionian Sea, and is known primarily for the production of Primitivo wine and olive oil. The district is located in the northern Salento, in a hilly area of the Murge Tarantine. The town is located approximately 107 meters above sea level, about 28 km from the provincial capital, Taranto. Some artifacts found in the district of Agliano, dating back to around 300 BC, attest to the Greek presence in the present territory of Sava. Probably it was the last Taranto outpost towards the southern Salento, populated by Messapians.
