New Gate

New Gate also known as St. Peter's Gate because of the statue of the saint who dominates it, is located near the oldest part of the city. It has undergone various renovations and reconstructions; the current appearance is attributable to the 18th century and shows a single arch framed by two pilasters set on high pedestals. At the top develops a mixtilinear tympanum enclosed by two side volutes, on top of which stands the statue of St. Peter. At the center of the arch can be seen the coat of arms of the city. The entire coat of arms, surrounded by elegant scrolls, is surmounted by the crown granted by Ferdinand IV of Bourbon for the elevation of Galatina to the rank of City.
