Saint Mary of the Cross
The early Christian church of Saint Mary of the Cross, has 5h-century mosaics and frescoes of Byzantine era in the presbytery .
The first construction core, dates back to 450 AD. Over the centuries, the building has undergone several changes and adjustments. The frescoes on the vault and the central nave date back to the 13th century; in the 14th century the lower naves were added.
Among the many frescoes (XI-XIV), there are those representing the Virgin and Child, Santa Barbara, figures of Greek Saints, the Deesis with Christ Pantocrator and scenes of the Passion and death of Christ. In the barrel vault of the nave are Gothic frescoes of the 13th century depicting scenes from the life of Saint Catherine of Alexandria and St. Margaret of Antioch.
