National Archaeological Museum of Taranto (MArTA)

The National Archaeological Museum of Taranto (MARTA) is an important archaeological museum located in Taranto, where it is exposed, among other things, one of the largest collections of artifacts of the era of Ancient Greece, including the famous Gold of Taranto. Located in Corso Umberto I at number 42, it was founded in 1887 and occupies the site of the former Convent of St. Pasquale of Baylon, built in the 18th century. The archaeologist Luigi Viola wanted to make a museum of Ancient Greece out of it, but it has always been dedicated mainly to the archaeological record of Taranto and the rest of Apulia.
