Coastal Watchtowers
Coastal Watchtowers / Torre Inserraglio - Nardò (LE)

Inserraglio or Critò tower

The current tower is a truncated pyramid-shaped building, not very tall and powerfully built around the 15th century and reinforced in the 16th century. Access to the tower was allowed by a drawbridge gate that no longer exists. From the wall thickness were then obtained the tank and drains, one of which is still preserved. The tower was used until 1842 by the customs guards, only to suffer a slow process of decay.
