Church of the Gesù
The Church of Jesus or the Madonna del Buon Consiglio is a church in the historic center of Lecce. Dating back to 1575, has been the seat of the Society of Jesus for centuries.
The entire building is inspired by the Church of the Gesu in Rome, considered the mother church of the Jesuit order. The façade is divided into two tiers: the lower part is characterized by empty niches that culminate in the portal surmounted by a broken tympanum which includes the emblem of the Society of Jesus adored by two angels.
The upper order has two side windows and a central window bordered by anthropomorphic friezes and surmounted by a niche with a statue of the Infant Jesus.
The interior has a Latin cross plan with short transept and four chapels.
