Church of Santa Maria della Purità
The Church of Santa Maria della Purita is located in the historic center of Gallipoli, in front of the 'seno della Purità' beach. It was built between 1662 and 1665 at the behest of the Bastasi brotherhood of Bastasi, that is, the port unloaders. In those years, the Oratory was built with a single nave, subsequently modified and expanded.
In the church there's a statue of Madonna della Misericordia, of the first half of 800, popularly known as the Desolate, carried in the Holy Saturday's procession with the statue of the dead Christ. Other statues are those of the 18th-century Madonna del Canneto and Santa Maria della Purita, in wood, and Santa Cristina (1866), in papier-mâché.
