Church of San Domenico al Rosario
The church of San Domenico al Rosario, annexed to the former convent of the Dominicans, is a church built in the historic center of Gallipoli in 1696. Built on the project of master Valerio Margoleo of Martano, it stands on the ruins of a pre-existing sacred building of which remain are few architectural elements. It is home to the historic Confraternity of the Rosary.
The church has an elegant prospectus, structured on two levels and has eight niches and three windows, with carved frames in local carparo, enriched with little angels and floral motifs.
The interior houses ten baroque altars adorned with several paintings by Giovanni Domenico Catalano of Gallipoli, depicting the Circumcision of Jesus, the Virgin and Child, Saints John the Evangelist and Peter Martyr and the Annunciation. Of great value are also the wooden statues of St. Domenico of Guzman and St. Vincenzo Ferreri.
